Social Media plays a great impact on one’s mental health. Human beings tend to display the kind of behavior they observe in their day-to-day life. If one is exposed to things on social media constantly, one starts to believe that it’s the reality of people out there. They can even start to change things about them they don’t like. For instance, if children are exposed to violence again and again, they start to engage in violent acts. It has been observed that high amount of screen time in people results in slow concentration levels, lack of productivity, etc.
- Also, frequent usage of social media contributes to anxiety and depression especially among teenagers and young adults. Another thing that is detrimental to the usage of social media is promotion of body image issues; teenagers and young adults view perfect body posts, etc., and develop problems like body dissatisfaction and in worse cases, eating disorders. Another problem associated with this is negative online interactions like cyber bullying, which can result into anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.
To mitigate this, one can limit screen time and take regular breaks, make one engage in offline activities and hobbies and also making one aware of the negativity surrounding social media as well as distincting between reality and online portrayal.

The digital age is a term that is quite scary. Everyone in this era is stuck with one or another gadget, be it a cell phone, laptop, iPad, etc. Having all these makes life so easy but yet miserable. It has more cons than pros, which applies to both physical and mental health. People are losing the basic essence of life like socializing, reading, taking a walk in nature, admiring the beauty, etc. The upgraded technology right at our fingertips which comes within our comfort zone has made our lives constricted and fidgety. To come out of this, I think we need to focus on both our physical and mental health. Firstly on mental health, making a habit of practicing meditation every day for 15 minutes will do wonders for our body. Our breathing will be focused and our mind will be fresh and more concentrated. Having a healthy food habit also can be considered since food is the main energy source for our body. Having an ample amount of water like 8 to 10 glasses every day will improve the health condition. Coming to physical health, moving the body as much as possible is the key. Exercising every day for at least an hour, taking a 10-minute break instead of sitting hours together, and sleeping a minimum of 8 hours. I think if these are followed, we can achieve a healthy lifestyle in this unhealthy digital era.
