The government of India has implemented many initiatives to promote gender equality which includes:
- Legal Protections: The government has enacted laws to protect women such as domestic violence act 2005, the dowry prohibition act 1961, and the prohibition of child marriage act 2006.
- Financial inclusion: The government has implemented initiatives to promote financial inclusion to women such as stand-up India and Pradhan Mantri Yojana.
- Education: The government has implemented initiatives to promote education for women such as right of children to free and compulsory education (RTE) act, 2009
- Employment: The government has implemented initiatives to promote employment for women such as the equal remuneration act,1976 which provides for equal pay for men and women for same work.
- STEM education: The government has implemented initiatives to promote women in STEM fields, such as gender advancement for transforming institutions (GATI) initiative, which aims to develop a charter for gender equity in STEMM.
