However, lyrics these days apart from being inspiring often tend to fill children’s heads with the wrong thoughts and ideas causing them to act on those thoughts and not being able to distinguish between right and wrong. Indeed. It is true that is today’s time due to availability of resources of media, music has been great impact on the gen-z. Not only by the lyrical part but also greatly by the visuals. I believe in this time children get easily influenced by what they see and hear by the favourite singer/actor. And nowadays in my opinion music does not feel the same as it used to be earlier times, no foul language; Just great lyrics along with the music and no adult scenes that makes the today’s generation easily available to the adult content. I would not say that today every music falls in this category but yes you would see the vast variety.
Music today aims to garner public viewership. With media houses running large brands and music streaming mainly happening online via Spotify, trending reels on Instagram, YouTube view counts, likes, and dislikes, it comes as absolutely no surprise that much of modern-day music is filled with catchy beats and lyrics that don’t drive any substantial message.
Relatability is the key in today’s market.
This is why you find music with lyrics talking about love, romantic experiences, violence, fame, and adrenaline-provoking content—these are relatable to consumers. This is much less the industry’s fault than it is the listener’s—as the listener is the king. If they want to listen to music that makes their adrenaline pump, that is what is served to them.
With the industry, now, being molded this way, those falling into the hell-pits are the most vulnerable sector of society: children. These younglings have no foresight to determine or even comprehend the implications of the content they consume on a regular basis. This is where parents come into play. Parents are individuals who drive the key decisions to be made in their child’s life.
So what can parents do now?
With the essence of music being sustained, and creativity as well as expression behind the same being understood, children will be able to experience music in a much wholesome manner.
