Constitutional Provisions Against Untouchability:

1. Article 15: This article prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth. It specifically prevents any form of untouchability in public places and services.
2. Article 17: It abolishes untouchability, making it an offense punishable by law. This provision directly addresses the social injustice faced by Scheduled Castes and aims to eradicate caste-based discrimination.
3. Article 46: This article promotes the educational and economic interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other weaker sections. It mandates the State to protect them from social injustice and exploitation.

Efforts to Eradicate Untouchability:

1. Legal Framework: The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 was enacted to prevent atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and to ensure justice for victims.
2. Reservations: The government has implemented reservation policies in educational institutions and public employment for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, facilitating their socio-economic upliftment.
3. Awareness Campaigns: Various campaigns and programs have been launched to promote awareness about the rights of marginalized communities and to educate society about the harmful effects of untouchability.
4. Social Welfare Schemes: The government has introduced numerous schemes aimed at improving the living standards of marginalized communities, including access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

These constitutional provisions and efforts collectively aim to eliminate untouchability, promote equality, and ensure social justice in India.
