Explain the significance of having a good attitude in high-pressure, stressful situations. How does a good attitude affect decision-making, dispute resolution, and general performance in leadership roles, and why is it so important for effective administration and government?
“Every problem has a solution, and every solution is in the mind,” quoted by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. So, whenever there is high pressure or a challenging situation, it requires a right approach so that our mind can focus on how to navigate the situation, which is possible if we have a positive attitude. Science has proven that it relaxes our muscles and body, reduces cortisol levels, and enhances the release of dopamine, which is a “reward neurotransmitter.” Having a positive attitude towards a challenging situation helps build confidence, opens our mind to creative problem-solving, enhances resilience, and makes a person adaptable. To inspire and encourage the team, the leader should be motivated and driven towards productivity. The positive attitude of the leader will help create trust and collaboration within the team and help resolve conflicts, maintain focus on the common goal, and ultimately achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. In administration, the complexity of challenges increases, affecting a larger population and multiple stakeholders, as the administrator is accountable to many. With a positive outlook, any challenge can be turned into an opportunity, which will enhance the trust of people and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve.
