The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) are two of the most competitive and widely taken entrance exams in India. While they are designed to ensure that only the best students get admitted to top engineering and medical colleges, there are concerns about their fairness for all students.
Arguments for fairness:
Arguments against fairness:
Basically the equity of NEET/JEE is debatable, where these standardized tests offer a merit based results, a level playing field remains elusive. Those students who are from higher financial background often have access to reputed coaching institutes and have better resources as compared to the once from lower financial backgrounds which gives the a siggnificant edge to excel in these competitve exams. One another drawback is format of exam priortize memorization over practical skills which means grasping rather than learning.Further concern about exam date inreggularties can also be question for the fairness of the exam.Ultimately the result of these exams does not give equity among students.
Both the exams are one of the most prestigious exams in India. Well if we talk about their selection criteria, they now serve to eliminate students with the success rate of less than 5% for the total candidates qualified. Lastly, You don’t know whether you are getting your desired branch and college or not but a reserved category student having lesser marks than yours would surely get this opportunity because of the so-called reservation system.
Thus, NEET doesn’t test the aptitude for surgery and medicine; nor does JEE can judge a student’s potential for engineering.
