Structure of the Thyroid Gland
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ located in the front of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple. It consists of two lobes connected by a thin tissue called the isthmus. The gland is made up of follicles filled with a substance called colloid, which contains thyroglobulin, a protein that stores thyroid hormones.
