Under PVTGs scheme the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has given benefit to particularly vulnerable tribal groups of Madhya Pradesh
The PVTGs (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) are the most vulnerable of the tribal groups, and this often gets overshadowed by the more developed tribes in terms of getting funds for development purposes. Therefore, the Government of India recognized 52 PVTGs in 1975, and in 1993, 23 more were added to make the total 75 PVTGs out of 705 Scheduled Tribes (2011 census), spread over 17 states and one Union Territory. The “Development of PVTGs” scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs with a view to uplift their socio-economic conditions, on the basis of CCD plans submitted by the states.
Basically, the criteria for identifying Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups are as follows: –
1. Pre-agricultural level of technology
2. Low level of literacy
3. Economic backwardness
4. Declining or stagnant population.
