A Biosphere Reserve is a site designated by UNESCO to promote a balanced development of biodiversity conservation with sustainable use of natural resources. Many of these regions are “living laboratories” of sustainable development, balancing ecological, social, and economic functions. These areas are subdivided into core, buffer, and transition zones, with the aim of having clear conservation and management objectives and a balanced people–nature relationship.
