India faces significant groundwater challenges due to over-extraction, pollution, and mismanagement. Rapid urbanization and agricultural expansion have led to excessive withdrawal of groundwater, causing depletion of aquifers. Many regions, especially in northern and western India, experience severe water scarcity as a result. Additionally, the contamination of groundwater from industrial waste, sewage, and agricultural runoff poses health risks to communities. Inefficient irrigation practices further exacerbate the problem, leading to wastage of this vital resource. Addressing these challenges requires sustainable water management practices, improved conservation efforts, and raising awareness about the importance of protecting groundwater for future generations.
