Indian Railways employs various kinds of gauges, which include the following:
Standard Gauge (SG): 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) – The most widely used gauge, making up the majority of the railway system.
Meter Gauge (MG): 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3/8 in) – Utilized in various areas, specifically on older railways and in some mountainous regions.
Narrow Gauge (NG): 762 mm (2 ft 6 in) or 610 mm (2 ft) – Employed on certain pathways, commonly in hilly or isolated regions.
