Nanotechnology: Revolutionizing Technology and Industry
Nanotechnology has revolutionize a lot of industries and has helped in many ways. Some of them are-
1 Medical field- in medical field targeted drug design and initial disease detection can be implemented with the help of nanotechnology. This has also helped in biosensors and improved healthcare. Surgeries and drug delivery has revolutionized through this method.
2. Semiconductors- With less band gap this technology is used in photonic devices and photo catalysts. This has helped in inventing a eco-friendly option for synthesis and reactions.
3. Environment- It has helped in protecting environment and improved efficiency of fuel production from rou materials through eco-friendly catalysts
Nanotechnology is the science that employs particles of nano size. Their applications range from the environment and medical field to marine technology and others.
From a medical point of view Nanotechnology is employed in almost every aspect of medical science. They have been used to aid in the diagnosis of diseases and also to prevent and treat them. The small size of these nanoparticles have also been of advantage in the drug delivery field. Although concerns were raised regarding the biocompatibility of the extremely small particles, the size optimization and other parameter correction have enabled the safe usage in medical field. It is employed in hairgrowth formulations to deliver drugs at the level of blood vessel adjacent to the hairfollicle to similar applications for topical dermal products. The nanoparticles play a very vital role in cancer treatment wherein nanobots can target specifically the cancerous tissue and destroy it; while leaving the healthy tissue unharmed. Also, the nanoparticles like gold, silver, titanium, and zinc, and their oxides are widely studied and experimented for treatment against several bacterial and viral infections.
The dental application of nanotechnology is very impressive. Nanoparticles are added as coatings on the surface of dental implants to make them biocompatible, increase surface area and also to provide osseointegration (implant fusion with bone). Nanoparticle is also delivered in the form of chips inside the gums to combat chronic gum diseases. Nanoparticles like gold, silver, zinc are also incorporated into a wide variety of dental products like filling materials -Glass Ionomer Cement, Composites. Nanoparticles are also incorporated into preventive dentistry by adding these particles into pit and fissure sealants and dental varnishes. Several cavity preventive toothpastes also employ nanoparticles in their composition. Thus, the medical and dental application of nanotechnology is widespread and inevitable.
Nanotechnology in the form of paints with nanoparticles was formulated and employed for ships to prevent colonization of organisms on the surface of submarines and other such marine devices.
These are a few examples of how nanotechnology is revolutionizing the industry and help create a better world.
