Early exposure of children to online communities has both significant positive and negative aspects. On a positive note, online communities can help children get exposure to support, allowing them to explore their interests and identities in a diverse and expansive environment. These online communities or platforms can give them more opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and the development of digital literacy skills. They can connect with peers who have similar interests, fostering social connections that were limited offline.
On the other side, they may have notable risk factors to be concerned about. They may have been exposed to cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and harmful behavior. And this can negatively affect self-esteem and emotional well-being. The nature of social media can sometimes create unrealistic standards, leading to issues like anxiety, depression, and more related mental issues at such a young age. They might not be able to distinguish between online personas and real-life identities, complicating their understanding of themselves.
To have safe exposure to online communities, children should be properly guided and assisted with elderly support. And they should balance online interactions with offline activities and parental guidance. Also, fostering critical thinking is crucial to ensuring children develop a healthy and well-rounded sense of identity in the digital age.
Early exposure to online communities can have various impact on children’s identity formation such as;
Kids self esteem and self perception can be affected by online peers.Feedback and support can boost confidence while negative interaction like cyberbullying, can harm self esteem.
Exposure to online world opens a door to numerous things one of them trends , the way now a days children doing various activities in different belonging to different society, culture, family status, this is not the end there are many more things which I can’t describe in in one answer. At the end combining all these factors, getting sight to all these things children get sight to all of them according to which they mould their beliefs. So it’s very important to guide children before getting them exposed only community.
Children are like a clay they could be moulded in whichever one want them to be ,so considering this fact we should make the children get exposed to online communities which can teach them lots of extra activities that can be build as their hobbies such as sports, art and craft, general knowledge etc.
Children can experiment with different identities on the internet because it’s relatively unacknowledged.It’s a safe way to explore yourself, but it can also lead to bad behaviour.
At last from my point of view early exposure to online communities can help in building smarter personalities of children as they interact with variety of social culture, what’s new thing going on the in the world, various sports, art culture etc, which make their learning faster in a very interesting way. On the other hand it’s has cons as well with it. If we won’t limit the children’s exposure to the communities outthere online it may create impact on them in a very negative way that’s not ofcourse sounds right. So children’ should be exposed to online communities but in a very careful manner .Thus, they will be impacted positively.
