The surge in online education post-COVID has had a significant impact on traditional classroom teaching. Here we can briefly discuss the ways in which online education can be revolutionary and its present challenges:-
Revolutionizing Traditional Classroom Teaching-
Flexible Learning: Online education can provide time and place flexibility to students. Also, it will save students time that get wasted while travelling to institution and coming back to home.
Access to Diverse Resources: The internet provides access to many useful resources, including lectures from top universities, educational videos, interactive simulations, and e-books and these things can enhance the learning of students.
Cost-Effectiveness: It can make education more affordable as it will save money that gets spent in commuting, buying printed materials etc.
Technology Integration: Students will develop digital skills by using technology used in online education, which is important for modern workforce.
Challenges of Online Education-
Digital Divide: Not all students can afford the cost of devices and the internet, which can increase inequality in education.
Lack of Social Interaction: Traditional classrooms help students to learn socializing skills by making friends and sharing their stuff, whereas online education will isolate students, which can lead to depression also.
Engagement and Self Motivation: Maintaining student engagement and motivation can be more challenging in an online environment. Each student can’t be monitored in online classroom. In physical education, a student gets motivated by seeing his/her friends progress which is not possible in online classroom.
Assessment Integrity: Maintaining the integrity of assessments will be more difficult in online mode as students can cheat in various ways.
Technical Issues: Totally depending on technology can lead to disruption in education due to software glitches and network issues.
Mental Health: Prolonged screen time and isolation can affect the mental health as well as eye sight of students.
