Emotions are involved in everything people do: every action, decision and
judgement. Emotional Intelligence is a very important indicator of a person‘s knowledge, skills and abilities in workplace, school and personal life.
Many researchers agree that the key to good decision making is the combination of both thinking and feeling in one‘s decisions. Positive moods and emotions help for better decision making. With positive emotions people can develop problem-solving skills and take good decisions quickly. The overall result of researches suggest that EI plays a significant role in the job performance, motivation, decision making, successful management and leadership.
Basically emotional intelligence is understanding and managing of our own and other’s emotions.
When we know our emotions well we also know the consequences of our decisions and if we know the consequences of our decisions we will be easily able to analyse if our decision is right for us or not.
For instance, if I know that I’m a sensible and emotional person then here I clearly know that if I will attach to a emotionally unavailable person or a toxic person who doesn’t communicate well, I would be in bad phase in the future. So while choosing our friend circle I would be extra cautious and choose my friends who will be good for my mental health.
Similarly when we know the other’s person emotions well, we will be able to know the needs of the other people and will take decisions which will be in the interest of all of us.
For example, if I’m a team leader in a company firstly I must know my team members behaviour and emotions and assign work accordingly.
Like if someone in my team is introvert then I should assign him/her the task of making PPT and and the responsibility of presenting of that project in front of office members should be given to the extroverted person.
A person who is calm and don’t panic easily should be given the analytical work.
A person who is social and outgoing should be given organising events and functions on an occasional day like organising games and puzzles etc for the the fun friday.
So in this way emotional intelligence gives us power to take right decisions.
