The long-term effects of popular diets like keto, paleo, and vegan on health can vary based on individual needs.
The keto diet, which is high in fats and low in carbohydrates, can lead to weight loss and improved blood sugar control for some. However, over time, it may also cause nutrient deficiencies due to its restrictive nature and may increase the risk of heart disease if high in saturated fats.
The paleo diet, which focuses on whole foods similar to what our ancestors ate, can support weight management and reduce inflammation. Yet, it can be low in calcium and vitamin D if dairy and fortified foods are avoided. It may also be challenging to sustain long-term due to its restrictive nature.
The vegan diet, which excludes all animal products, can offer numerous health benefits, such as a lower risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers. A well-planned vegan diet can also support healthy weight management and provide fiber and antioxidants. However, it requires careful planning to avoid deficiencies in essential nutrients like vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Without proper supplementation and a balanced approach, long-term adherence to a vegan diet can lead to nutritional imbalances.
The effects of these diets depends on how they are being executed and planned.
Basically each of these diets have some positive as well as some negative effects when it comes to long term.
first let’s look at keto (fat rich) diet; it has medium amount of protein but very low carbs.
Its positive effects are that it helps in weight loss, control blood sugar and also helps in good functioning of nervous system. But on the other hand it may cause nutrients deficiency like vitamin B, C Mg and fiber too, fats could potentially raise LDL cholesterol and thereby increasing heart disease risk, It can also put liver to work more due to excess fat.
Now coming to Paleo diet which is based on lean meat, fish, fruits, veggies and all the natural things that are being consumed by people in ancient times, its positive effects are also improving blood sugar and reducing insulin resistance, reduces inflammation in the body, improves immunity but its difficult to maintain it due to its restrictive nature as we find most of things in todays world which is processed, we’re habitual of diary etc.
Now the last one that is vegan diet which excludes anything and everything that involves animal; we can call it purely plant based diet.
Its positive effects are that it is low in saturated fats and cholesterol thus helps in improving heart health and weight management too. Also lowers cancer risk due to increased fruits and vegetables.
But it may cause nutrient deficiency like iron, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids etc
due to low calcium bone health is compromised too, also it leads to low energy levels.
A BALANCED DIET IS REQUIRED FOR HAVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. KEEP THIS IN MIND.
