In today’s modern era the word “screentime” has gained lot of attention due to its advantages and disadvantages. The challenge is to strike that balance where the child can get advantages of the screen time while keeping it minimum for the sake of health and emotional factors.
The following proven ways can help the child to reduce screen time and benefitted by it at the time!
- Parent-child interaction : It is of utmost importance to have creative parent-child interaction in minimizing screen time. First and foremost, the parents as curious individuals themselves should create interest in knowing and learning so many beautiful aspects of life which in turn attracts the child to the parents’ confidence. Buying right educational toys is a single click away these days which will help the child to keep him away from screen and grasp the things to grow further.
- Offering ‘right’ screen time : Yes, you heard it right! There are many channels that are promoting educational content that are good in developing the cognitive abilities of the child. If we can introduce such content once and then repeat the same concepts to the child, it will not only help in reducing screen time but also foster good communication between parents and the child.
- Reading books : It is no wonder that an increase in screentime is inversely proportional to reading good books. Introducing the child to the books that are relevant to his/her age not only combats the effects of screen time but also has unbelievable benefits that includes reading/writing skills, improvement in vocabulary, elevation in imagination abilities and gaining wide insights for looking at life. This will empower the child to face the competitive world.
- Social interactions : In today’s world it is important to take out the child from home to social gatherings and other community functions to get involved with the activities and learn social morals from other members. This way the child will actually interact with the real world rather than getting in to the virtual screen world and develop himself/herself to be a healthy and strong individual.
