Recently, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched its new rocket called Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). What are its advantages? How can SSLVs be a game changer for ISRO in the years to come?

This new type of rocket truly puts the ‘Small’ in Small Satellite Launch Vehicle, or SSLV as it has been developed by ISRO. To analogize the strategic evolution of 10-Ks, it is as if you have swiftly and efficiently developed a lean, mean workhorse for your space launches. Here’s why it’s so exciting:
Launching on a budget: The creation of the SSLV reduce the cost of launch and make space available for universities, start-ups as well as small organizations. This creates opportunities for more people and inventive ideas to be involved.
Faster turnaround times: Just think of the situation that you do not have to wait for months for your satellite to be launched! According to the company, the SSLV will take much shorter time than the conventional rockets. Boito effectively brought to satellite TV an express lane to speed up the launch of the project.
One rocket, multiple payloads: The SSLV can accommodate multiple satellites into space at equal instances. Imagine a lift-sharing service for space, it has lowered the costs of launching one individual satellite and even more so for constellations of small satellites.
Adaptable and mobile: On the opposite, the SSLV doesn’t need to launch from an enormous launch-pad site. Due to its relative simplicity it can be launched from virtually anywhere. Of course, consider it as a better launch platform, one that’s flexible as to the kind of missions it can support, much less clients.
In general, the SSLV puts ISRO at the future vanguard of the small satellite launch business. It is geared towards being a cheaper way of putting more satellites into space in a shorter span of time. This is a good omen for further space mission, research work and development of the commercial space business.
And the advantages are:
Reduced Launch Costs: Concerning SSLVs, they are supposed to be comparatively cheap enabling launching of satellites at a lower cost.
See lessFaster Turnaround Time: Thus, SSLV is more efficient or takes less time than the large sized launch vehicles.
Flexibility for Multiple Satellites: This makes SSLV perfect to transport multiple satellites in one flight which is perfect for small satellites formation known as constellation.
Simpler Launch Infrastructure: SSLV does not heavily rely on. the amount of infrastructures required for its launch and can be launched from anywhere
