The Indian national flag has gone significant changes influenced by political, social, economic and revolting factors against the British goverment. The flag holds an important symbolism in showing any country’s core values, its history, the goals and ambitious and so is Indian national flags

1. The Swaraj Flag (1906)

It was Designed by Sachindra Prasad Bose, a Bengali artist and freedom fighter
– Featured three horizontal stripes of green, yellow, and red
– Green represented the Muslims, yellow represented the Hindus, and red represented the Sikhs and other communities
– Had eight half-opened lotus flowers on the green stripe, representing the eight provinces of British India
– Had a crescent moon on the yellow stripe, symbolizing the country’s desire for independence
– This flag was hoisted at the Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress in 1906

2. The Quit India Flag (1942)

– Designed by Yusuf Meherally, a socialist and freedom fighter
– Featured a tricolor design with green, white, and red stripes
– Had a spinning wheel (charkha) in the center, symbolizing Gandhi’s call for self-reliance and non-violent resistance
– The spinning wheel also represented the economic independence of India
– This flag was hoisted at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai in 1942, marking the launch of the Quit India Movement

3. The Indian National Flag (1947)

– Designed by Pingali Venkayya, a freedom fighter and artist from Andhra Pradesh
– Featured a tricolor design with saffron, white, and green stripes
– Saffron represented courage, white represented purity and truth, and green represented faith and chivalry
– Had the Ashoka Chakra (Dharma Chakra) in the center, representing the eternal wheel of law and the country’s commitment to justice and truth
– This flag was adopted as the national flag of India on July 22, 1947, after India gained independence from British rule.
