Five strategies are as follows:
- Awareness programs: Active community engagements with illiterate, elderly and disabled section of population whose land will be impacted by development projects.
- Integrated urban planning: Focus should be on inclusive housing, water supply, and sanitation along with promoting jobs, skilled work and education for marginalized sections.
- Indigenous knowledge: Focus should be on traditional and cultural knowledge associated with natural resources to include it in the planning and implementation of development projects to promote harmony with the environment.
- Transparency: It is essential to elect representatives from local communities to voice their concerns and interests.
- Resilient city planning: Focus should be on building low carbon transportation, green buildings with nature-based solutions, effective waste management, and importantly flood management systems.
