The importance of hand hygiene and sanitation has been recognised for centuries,but its significance has been particularly highlighted in recent times during COVID -19 pandemic.
The concept of hand hygiene means preventing the spread of disease.
Later in the 19 th century,the germ theory of disease, developed by scientists louis Pasteur and Robert Koch of hand hygiene in preventing the transmission of infectious germs .
Importance of Hand Hygiene in COVID -19 Pandemic
The COVID -19 Pandemic caused by the 2 virus the Sara – CoV- ,has brought the importance of hand hygiene and sanitation to the forefront once again ,as it was transmitted by respiratory droplets and contact with the surfaces ,making proper hand hygiene a crucial measure .
The World Health Organization (WHO) and other health authorities had consistently emphasized on washing hands with soap and water or alcohol based hand sanitizers as it was the one of most effective way to reduce the spread of COVID -19 .
It has significantly increased the global awareness and understanding of hand hygiene.
It had long lasting impact on personal health and also it has improved the regular hand hygiene habits and health practices .
