The phenomenon of rappers beefing with each other is deeply rooted in the culture and history of hip-hop. It’s really hard to identify who and when was trend started.
Several factors are responsible for a beef occurring between the rappers. The concept of beefing evolved from these informal battles into more public and sometimes highly personal conflicts between artists. One early example often cited is the rivalry between KRS-One and MC Shan in the 1980s, which escalated through diss tracks and public statements. These conflicts captured the attention of fans and media, setting a precedent for how disputes between artists could unfold publicly.
Some Famous Beefs Are As follows –
1.East Coast VS West Coast
2.Jay-Z VS Naz

Well, most of the time, for controversy and attention. But I wouldn’t rule out genuine hatred or jealousy for people in the same field. If you write a rap song attacking another rapper, you get not only your normal audience but also a share of theirs who will listen to your track because it mentions their guy.
The second part of the question is tricky. One of the earliest recorded rap battles took place in 1981. It was Kool Moe Dee vs. Busy Bee Starski at the Harlem World Club. I’m sure that if you put your mind to it, you can trace these rap beefs back much earlier than that. But the Dee vs. Starski feud set a big nostalgic precedent for competitive exchanges in hip-hop later down the line. Over the years, these competitive exchanges evolved from live rap battles to recorded diss tracks.
In the mid-90s, the East vs. West rivalry ended up in a terrible tragedy for Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. Since then, the temperature in rap battles has come down a lot.
