Gender equality has always been a sensitive and relevant topic in all spheres and at all times. Every person, regardless of his/her gender should get a fair and equal treatment, opportunity and dignity in life. Discrimination which is the root evil still pertaining in the society, should be eradicated by every means.
At workforce there is generally a false notion that a female employee is always less efficient and effective as a male employee, and so should be paid less. Female workforce also constitutes an important part of our economy, and none of the parameters such as gender exist to judge a person’s efficiency or capabilities. Time and again the voices has been raised demanding equal pay for equal work by different organisations and groups working and willing for the welfare of women.
Though the still prevalent conditions doesn’t seem to improve the situation. Following are the ways by which we can together eradicate this root evil prevailing at corporate places.
1. Awareness :- One must be aware of his/her rights and duties and shall make sure to report the cases of unfair treatment or prejudices wisely and fairly.
2. HR Policies:- Companies must have fair HR policies to ensure fair and equal treatment for all their employees.
3. Regular checks by Directors:- Regular checks at various moral issues in the company by the senior authorities should be done to avoid any injustice done in their company, and thus save their reputation.
4. Seeking redressal opportunity: – A company can have an anonymous complaint box so that the issue can be addressed while the identity of the person aggrieved can be hidden.
5. Formation of NGO groups:-
The formation of NGO groups for a specific purpose and motive will ensure greater effectiveness.
6. Government interference:- Government should interfere and take serious and strict action if they find any complaint of such grievances in the corporate places to ensure law, order and a more peaceful society.
Addressing the persistent gender pay gap is a global challenge that requires concerted efforts from all societies. It is imperative to ensure equal pay for equal work, a principle that is not only fair but also fundamental to human rights.
