Mission Shakti was a successful anti-satellite┬а {ASAT} missile test conducted by India on March 27,2019.
With this mission , India become the fourth country in the World to demonstrate the capability to destroy a satellite in orbit ,after the United States , Russia and China.
India demonstrated its ability to operate in space and protect its assets from adversarial attacks.
The target satellite was launched into a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 282 kilometers on January 24, 2019. The test was conducted in the lower atmosphere to minimize space debris, which would decay and fall back to Earth within weeks.
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DR DO) launched a missile from the ground to hit and destroy a satellite in low Earth orbit (LEO). The missile used was the Prithvi Delivery Vehicle Mark-II (PD V MK-II), a modified anti-ballistic missile interceptor.
