Drawbacks of Rutherford’s Atomic Model

Rutherford’s atomic model has several key drawbacks:

• Electron Stability: It couldn’t explain how electrons remain stable in their orbits without spiraling into the nucleus.
• Energy Emission: The model failed to account for the emission of energy when electrons lose energy while moving.
• Spectral Lines: It could not explain the distinct lines in atomic spectra.

Example: Just like planets orbit the sun, Rutherford suggested electrons orbit the nucleus, but unlike planets, electrons would lose energy and crash into the nucleus, which doesn’t happen in reality.
