El Niño is a climate phenomenon in which warmer-than-normal ocean temperatures in the Pacific disrupt global weather patterns. It causes droughts in some areas and heavy rains in others, affecting agriculture, ecosystems and economies around the world. El Nino occurs every few years and can last for several months.
