Women, as a vulnerable section, face systemic gender-based discrimination and disadvantages. Measures like reservations, financial inclusion, skill development, and violence prevention laws aim to ensure women’s equality and empowerment.
Specialized bodies like the National Commission for Women monitor issues and advocate for women’s rights. Women’s self-help groups and NGOs also play a vital role in enhancing their social, economic, and political participation.

The working conditions of women in Mollywood paint a disturbing reality, as revealed by a recent 290-page Hema committee report. Key issues include rampant sexual harassment, lack of basic facilities, and poor pay. It is revealed that the industry is dominated by powerful men who make open demands for sexual favors, forcing women to comply or risk losing opportunities. On sets, there’s absence of toilets and changing rooms for junior artists, with inadequate sanitary facilities during menstruation. Working conditions are not okay, with insufficient food and water, low pay, and lack of accommodation and transport. These conditions lead to physical discomfort, illness, and in some cases, hospitalization. Many women fear job loss if they complain. The report, based on interviews with industry professionals and supported by video and message evidence, exposes deep-rooted issues in Mollywood. The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has validated these findings, while some directors acknowledge the need for change. Recommendations include making the industry safer for women and implementing measures to protect aspiring artists. This report highlights the urgent need for reform to ensure a safe and equitable work environment for women in the Malayalam film industry, addressing the systemic problems that have long affected Mollywood.

There are still many ignorant people that say “she deserved getting raped because of how she was dressed”…. How a woman dresses doesn’t give men the right to rape !!
India is considered as one of the unsafe countries to live in and people in India usually don’t wear revealing clothes in public.
Actresses wear revealing clothes!! Are they raped ? No they aren’t whereas common people are being raped who are in burqas in complete clothes that are not revealing and and small babies are being raped
It is so shameful to call this my country where no human is safe

In general child abuse mean violating the children rights which can lead to the child’s damage of child’s physical, mental and emotional state. Child abuse can be of Physical, sexual, mental abuse which lead to children’s damage of safety environment and well- being.
Physical abuse refers to violence on the child , mental abuse refers to damaging the mental well being of the child by verbally insulting them and creating a harmful environment, and sexual abuse refers to behaving sexually inappropriate with the child. These kinds of abuses leads to trauma , depression, anxiety, and may lead children into the wrong path.
Negligence is also a abuse where the parent or caretaker or the guardian of the child neglect to provide the basic needs of the child like essential shelter, food , daily needs and emotional needs. Not creating an environment of safety may lead to the nagative efforts on the child.
Children who face child abuse will not be able to grow as a stable individual, it effects their academics, social life , mental health, it also impacts negatively as they grow into adults.
The abuse can happen through a complete stranger or by the person that the child knows. Parents/ caretakers/ guardians should be educated on this problem so that child abuse can be prevented, therapy/ counciling should be provided to the children who faced the abuse so that might help them to heal . A proper reporting system should be made by the government so the well being of the child won’t be compromised. And strict actions should be taken on the abusers .
Parents/ educational institutions should take more care towards children to prevent child abuse and create a safe environment for the children to grow.

The educational curricula have to be rewritten. It has been plagued by misandry and gender bias for a very long time. There have always been silenced gaps and subtle poses regarding women (be it their lives or contributions). What has to be done is that the history should be rewritten. Incorporating women’s historical and contemporary contributions would be the first and foremost step to begin with. One of the crucial points to be noticed here is how the question of domestic work is constantly devalued. When it comes to the science field, there are factoids about women who made significant discoveries possible, like the women who wrote the code for black holes, that are frequently overlooked and underrepresented. Their achievements should be documented and analyzed in detail. Regarding art or literature, women’s literature should be included, like more autobiographies, memoirs, etc. More personal narratives of women should be included to counter official narratives( that are quite often patriarchal). At school levels, there should be more gender sensitivity workshops curated by women. This should be adapted to different school grades. Theories like “misandry”, “patriarchy”, and “mansplaining” should be taught to all the students. However, at the end of the day, the truth is that, in theory, they all sound nice but, in reality, are culturally challenging to disseminate. Regardless, they might be good things to include.

The recent rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata underscores the ongoing brutality against women in 21st-century India.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “India will only truly achieve independence when a woman can walk freely on the streets at night.”
Reasons Behind the Lack of Women’s Safety in India
Women’s lack of financial independence limits their ability to protect themselves from abuse.
Many women are denied property rights due to entrenched social norms.
Men dominate leadership roles, missing the opportunity to fully recognize and utilize women’s contributions.
Women mostly work in the informal economy, lacking social protections.
Despite the POSH Act, reported cases of workplace harassment have risen, and under-reporting remains high due to fear and societal biases.
Misogynistic attitudes and cultural norms contribute to victim-blaming and normalize sexual violence.
Ineffective legal responses and lack of severe penalties for perpetrators foster a culture of impunity.
Patriarchal structures perpetuate gender inequality and violent expressions of dominance.
Poor infrastructure, such as inadequate lighting and unsafe transportation, increases women’s vulnerability to crimes.
Some effective ways communities can come together to enhance women’s safety in public spaces:
People power has brought attention to the plight of women in India. But that is no longer enough. For meaningful change, policymakers need to reform the institutions that can directly improve the lives of half the population. Women in the world’s largest democracy deserve that.

To make public spaces safer for women in India, we need some real changes. First off, let’s address the root issue: patriarchy. This outdated system shapes the power dynamics between genders and needs a serious overhaul. It’s high time we stop blaming victims and start holding perpetrators accountable.
Legal action should be faster and tougher. It should be both deterrent and reformative. Many of us hesitate to report harassment because we feel nothing will change. Personally, I’ve faced harassment from neighbors, random people on the street, and even on public transport. I’ve also had uncomfortable experiences with doctors, therapists and technicians. We need a legal system that genuinely protects us.
Infrastructure plays a crucial role too. Well-lit streets and reliable CCTV cameras are a must. I’ve avoided going out late because some areas are just too dark. Sirens in public spaces and SOS services for cabs and taxis are also essential. For example, Rapido’s late-night call system for women is a step in the right direction.
Communities definitely can make a big difference. Not being a bystander and helping and understanding women in distress is essential. Education on respecting women’s boundaries should begin early, in schools and workplaces.
Lastly, distress helplines and apps need to be more reliable. If we all work together, we can create public spaces where women truly feel safe.

Organizations can effectively address and reduce gender disparities in the workplace through a series of strategic actions.
First, they should conduct regular pay audits to identify and rectify pay gaps between male and female employees. Transparency in salary policies can help ensure fairness and hold the organization accountable.
Second, offering mentorship programs can support women’s career growth. By pairing women with experienced mentors, organizations can help them navigate their careers and access opportunities for advancement.
Third, promoting flexible work arrangements is crucial. Options like remote work or adjustable hours can help women manage work-life balance, particularly those with family responsibilities.
Additionally, training and awareness programs can educate all employees about gender biases and the importance of equality. This creates a more inclusive culture where everyone feels valued.
Finally, organizations should set clear diversity goals and hold leadership accountable for achieving them. By making gender equality a priority at all levels, companies can foster an environment that encourages growth and success for everyone.
Implementing these strategies can significantly contribute to closing the gender gap in the workplace.
