To become a CEO of a company a combination of factors matters but if I had to rank them I would say
- Experience (60%) in leadership roles, industry knowledge and a proven track record of success are crucial. A CEO needs to have a deep understanding of the business, its operations and its challenges.
- Education (20%) provides a foundation in business principles, management and leadership. Many CEOs hold advanced degrees such as MBAs or PhDs which demonstrate their expertise and commitment to their field.
- Money (10%) having a strong financial background or connections can be beneficial but it’s not the primary factor. A CEO’s ability to manage finances, make strategic decisions and drive growth is more important than their personal wealth.
- Additional factors (10%) like networking, mentorship and personal qualities such as charisma, vision and leadership skills also play a role in becoming a CEO.
While these factors can vary in importance depending on the company, industry and specific circumstances, experience is generally the most critical factor in becoming a CEO.
