In recent years, India has seen a tremendous transformation in the gender role. Women are creating a more impactful history as compared to men. Women working outside to earn a livelihood have been normalized even in villages. This was all possible due to awareness, education, legal reforms, government initiatives, and the influence of media and technology.
Delving into the historical norms of India, it is highly rooted in patriarchy. Where the roles of women are limited to kitchen and child upbringing by bearing inhumane treatment lifelong. This slowly started to change in the early 20th century through some social reforms, leading to drastic changes in recent years.
In recent years, societal attitudes have been changed due to several key factors. Education is the leading factor among all, where women are getting higher education and skills making them ideal candidates in working field. Followed by government initiatives, where special schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao have been implemented, along with legal reforms that include special laws for women.
Along with this media has played a crucial role in women’s empowerment, by portraying strong, independent working women. This not just only changed perception but has also successfully set trends for them. These evolving societal attitudes have resulted in increased participation in the workforce, greater representation in politics, and women’s entrepreneurship driving socioeconomic growth for women.
To conclude, societal attitudes have changed due to overcoming various deeply rooted patriarchal challenges faced by women in the past years. Overcoming these challenges not only impacted the development of women’s opportunities and empowerment but has also uplifted the whole spirit of the country.
