About India, The Nationally determined contribution has affected various industries in various ways. There are four critical industries affected which are :

1. Coal and Fossil Fuel-Based Industries: The NDC aims to achieve about 50% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030. As a result, From 2014 to 2024, the CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of imported coal’s share in the total consumption basket stood at around -2.7%. Also, The share of imported coal declined from 22.48% in April 2022 to January 2023 to 21% in the same period in 2023-24.
2. Renewable Energy and Green Industries: The NDC promotes renewable energy, green hydrogen, electric vehicles, and energy-efficient technologies, creating new business opportunities in these emerging sectors. For instance, India’s electric vehicle market size is projected to grow from $3.21 billion in 2022 to $113.99 billion by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 66.52%.
3. Energy-intensive industries: The amended Energy Conservation Act obligates industries to use non-fossil energy sources, apply energy conservation codes, and meet energy consumption standards. This has made energy-intensive industries like aluminum, cement, and chemicals to invest in improving energy efficiency and transitioning to cleaner energy sources
4. Automotive Industry: The policies promoting electric vehicles and fuel efficiency standards have impacted the traditional automotive industry, requiring them to shift towards electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturing.
