Youths are the backbone of any society, hence containing huge social capital. Here’s why:
Agents of Change: Youths are always energetic, zealous and innovative to undertake various activities facing the society. Will be more prepared to accept and embrace shift in attitude towards the use of innovative ways of addressing issues.
Digital Natives: Millennials are conversant with technology and social networking and are therefore well placed to harness these media for convening, sensitizing and organizing.
-Mass Population: It is a formidable force in the social transformation process, because youths are the largest population in many countries.
-Future Leaders: Finally youth will capture all aspects of social life and shape the future society. Today’s emancipation of the youth is directed towards creating a society that will be just and equal.
Does getting empowered socially mean that we need to empower the youths?
Therefore, empowering the youths for social development is incomplete with the foregoing goals. Social empowerment entails practice that supports all disadvantaged persons, including women, the disabled, and small ethnic groups, among others.
However, the focus on youth is significant because:
The society will be earning a lot of point for a long time once we decide to invest in youth development. This means youth empowered will ensure that people enjoyed a prosperous, just and sustainable future.
-Multiplier effect: youth can change the trends for their perceived future by becoming empowered parents, leaders of their community and in extension, society.
Conclusion: The involvement of youth is an important focus in the process of their socialization. Education, skills and leadership mean a better future for all people and investing in young people will help transition to a fair society.
