I usually handle criticism and feedback with a positive mindset. Deep down, if I feel that they’re right, I make necessary changes, because that helps me enhance my skills and provides an opportunity to refine my work.
It is absolutely true that handling criticism and feedback effectively can provide important skills for personal and professional growth.
For instance, during an assignment period in my college, my professor pointed out that my team was lacking in sales. Initially I was really angry and felt humiliated because I was expecting an appreciation but not criticism. But later, we have realised that our professor was right after all. By considering his feedback, my team and I made certain changes in advertising and sales & production force management which increased our sales significantly, making us the team with the highest number of sales in that quarter. We were finally one of the best of the best teams. This has also made my team and I more confident and less insecure. This made me realise that accepting our mistakes and being open minded and makes us better people, personally and professionally. Being egoistic and self centred gets us nowhere.
Nevertheless, in a few cases, if I don’t get convinced that I’m wrong or there’s room for correction in my work, I just let it go. Because at the end of the day, my actions have to satisfy me. So it all comes down to our individual selves and instincts.
