During World War II the resources of the British were drastically decreasing and were busy fighting the war.

As the British were looking India for their backup resources and didn’t want India to slip away from them. They had information that Japanese soldiers were approaching Indian territory for invasion because of that as a result the British had no choice left but to send an official which was led by Sir Stafford Cripps in 1942 to make a new constitution for India during the World War to keep India on their side.

Britishers goals:

1. To keep the support of India and charge the expenses which are damaged in the UK.
2. Preventing Indian National Congress to join forces and form alliances with Japan
3. To secure the participation of Indian nationals in world war.

Reasons of failure:

1.  Lack of trust:Indian leaders were suspicious of Britishers intentions due to their history of breaking promises.
2. Partial independence: The law in the constitution does not give complete freedom, only the right to control.
3. Muslim League differences: The ideas of the new constitution were in favor of the united India, but the Muslim League opposed it and wanted an independent Pakistan.
4. Gandhi’s Disagreement: Mahatma Gandhi rejected these proposals and demanded complete independence.
5. British Stubbornness: The British refused to tackle important issues like the future of the Indian princely states.

Cripps mission failure results in:

1. Indian nationalism and anti-British sentiment increased.
2. Strengthening Quit India Movement from 1942 to 1944, a civil disobedience movement on a large scale.
3. British soldiers killed and captured Indian leaders, including Gandhi which even increased the aggression in people over Britishers.
4. At Last change of power in 1947, partition of India into India and Pakistan.
