The right to education is said to be for everyone. Still, a large portion of the population gets excluded from the “everyone” group depending on their economic status, gender and caste.
Despite being a basic human right, many people still cannot afford education because of financial constraints, limited infrastructure, and economic inequality.
Lack of educational opportunities and educational discrepancies are the two most overlooked aspects of modern India. Though the population is increasing at an astonishing rate, the facilities for this acquired population aren’t increasing at the same rate.
Many initiatives have been made to make education more accessible for all. With policies like free mid-day meals, free books, bicycles and much more, some might be under the impression that these policies have made a significant change. While there is some truth to that, what a lot of us need to realise is that a wide margin of the population residing below the poverty line fails to gain access to the basic things necessary for survival on most days. For these marginalised people struggling to make ends meet, education is a faraway thought.
Initiatives like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the Right to Education Act have been implemented for the sole purpose of making education free and accessible for the younger generation. However, simply implementing these policies won’t make a big change. It is important to ensure the funds that get used here are going in the right direction and the policies are strictly followed all over the country.
