Mars is a classifies terrestrial planet in our solar system having a diameter of 6,778 Km. There can be many reasons that why government feels that its an attaractive target to focus on:
Mars consists of similar day length as on earth with a count of 24.6 hours.
Mars has recently shown signs of presence of water on its surface which is the most crucial thing for survival.
It has that technological and growth potential due to its abundance in resources and fuels.
and obviously it acts as a backup for humanity.
But why govt. must focus on earth rather than mars because:
immediate Needs like poverty, Climate change, depleting resources etc. leads to problems of billions of people.
it consists of a doubtful venture as the results are not guaranteed instead priortise helping people.
It is exciting to colonise mars but in order to that technological readiness is not there, it will require decades of engineering and upgradation in technology in order to reach mars at first place.
