Women and men are inseparable parts of social culture or society. The conditions of women in society were different in each phase of history. In ancient times, there was a matriarchal society where women practised more power and authority than men. With time, the matriarchal society changed into a patriarchal one. The position of women in Mughal society depended on their social and economic condition, along with class and time.

• Women were accountable for household chores and agricultural activities.
• Sometimes women related to royal families took charge of political or administrative strategy. Examples: Noor Jahan, Maham Anaga, Isan Daulat Begum, etc.
• Women witnessed social evils like child marriage, sati, and polygamy.
• The women of royal families were patrons of art, science, and architecture. European women didn’t have control of their wealth, while Mughal women enjoyed control of their wealth.
• During the Mughal period, Indian, Persian, and Central Asian traditions were merged. Because of this, the role and status of women were increased in the fields of language, custom, and dress, 
• Akbar initiated several social reforms to discourage child marriage and Sati pratha, which led to improvements in the status of women.
