By definition, a classic is a piece of literature that is worth being read through the ages. And what better example of a modern classic than Harry Potter? Though it starts out as a children’s book, it is evident that it has captured the attention of children and adults alike. Adults much more so as the plot develops and the characters grow up, they go through feelings that every single person has lived through in their lives at some point.( Magical maladies aside, ofcourse!) Harry’s life starts out miserable and lonely due to the tragic death of his parents but he finds hope, happiness and friendship to last him a lifetime. Set in the wondrous wizarding world, a place that everyone who has read it is eager to escape to including the author herself who found it a comforting place to escape to from reality. More than anything, Harry’s magical school Hogwarts represents a second home, a place of solace, which will never be not needed no matter the time and age.
With an engaging plotline, fantastical beasts, mysterious artifacts and most of all, entertaining characters, Harry Potter stands strong as one of the most popular works of fiction to this day, even after more than a decade since it’s final installment was published. Even to this day the love for this series has outgrown its original borders of the United Kingdom and moved to almost every corner of the world.
A series that can keep you engaged from a young age upto your adulthood is quite rare to find as usually people tend to outgrow certain things they loved in childhood. But Hogwarts remains a place that you would never want to move on from.
And this is why Harry Potter remains a classic and will always be one.
