Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, known for his vehement defiance of the British administration, had an immensely decisive impact on India’s struggle for Freedom.  Enlisted below are his contributions in detail:

• The beginning of Bose’s journey in the struggle for Freedom was marked by his starting of the newspaper, Swarajya in 1921.
• Bose was an active political figure throughout the course of his youth. In the ’20s, he mobilized the All-Bengal Young Men’s Conference and in both 1938 and 1939, he held the position of President of the Indian National Congress. He also led the All-India Forward Bloc.
• Bose sought assistance from Germany, Italy and Japan to subvert the authority of the British Empire. He would use the Berlin Radio to inspire a large number of Indians and urged them to dream of an Independent State. He met Germany’s Adolf Hitler, Japan’s Hideki Tojo and Italy’s Mussolini, planning an armed resistance.
• When Bose arrived in Southeast Asia in 1943, he reorganized the Indian National Army and renamed it the ‘Azad Hind Fauj.’ Later, with the help of the Japanese forces, he formed the Azad Hind provincial government in exile.
• Under the Azad Hind Fauj, Bose included the Rani of Jhansi regiment, to urge the active involvement of women in the Freedom Struggle.
• Bose played a major role in mobilizing the Trade unions and the youth of the country. In 1930, Bose was elected as the President of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).
• Bose challenged the idea of Dominion Status proposed by the British and demanded Independence in the absolute sense.
• The INA, along with the Japanese Forces, presented a monumental threat to the British and this pressurized them into introducing further reformative actions.
