This perception of misandry is perhaps the most prevalent stereotype about feminism. Feminism by definition is a social and political movement that advocates for gender equality and the rights of women in a patriarchal society. While on the other hand, misandry involves a strong contempt, or distrust towards males which is often based on negative stereotypes about men as a social group.

In today’s world as feminism challenges traditional gender roles and power dynamics there are various reasons why it is linked and misinterpreted as misandry-

1. Feminists often critique men to challenge patriarchal norms that uphold gender inequality, but these critiques are often misrepresented as misandry.
2. Some feminists have extreme views on men because of how men have treated women with oppression in the past. This view is often labelled as misandry.
3. With fast paced social media, posts and reels sometimes promote misogynistic views as an answer to feminism. This can lead people to mistake feminism as anti-men, which is misandry.
4. Media and popular culture often highlight extreme or controversial statements made by a minority of feminists, which can reinforce the misconception that feminism is inherently misandrist.
5. As feminism becomes more influential in challenging old ideas about gender and fighting for women’s rights, some groups of people push back because they feel threatened about these changes. This resistance can make it seem like feminism is against men.

When discussing human rights, it’s crucial to acknowledge the ongoing suffering caused by patriarchy. Feminism aims to eliminate this suffering. Misandry, or hatred towards men, is unrelated to this goal.
