Gender inequality in the workplace is a persistent issue that has got widespread attention in recent years.According to the World Economic Forum, it will take another 132 years to close the gender pay gap globally, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.
When we talk about gender inequality at work place then there are several issues associated to it , some of them are as follows:
Unequal Pay and Benefits:
One of the most significant challenges that women face in the workplace is unequal pay and benefits. According to a UN report, women earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. Thus, the labour of women employees is not given much importance as that of men .
Lack of Diversity and Inclusion:
The lack of diversity and inclusion in the workplace can lead to other challenges like microaggressions, discrimination, and harassment against women and other marginalized groups. For example, women of color may face intersectional discrimination, where their gender and race intersect to create unique challenges and barriers in the workplace.
Sexual Harassment and Discrimination:
Women are disproportionately affected by sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace, with studies suggesting that one in three women face physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner in their lifetime.
Carrear Advancement and Leadership
Opportunities:
Women are underrepresented with women holding only 31% senior management positions globally.
The lack of carrear advancement and leadership opportunities can have a significant impact on the growth of a woman’s carrear.
Apart from these there are several other gender biased barriers faced by women at the workplace. It is not easy to tackle these stereotypes, but it could be done when every person takes a step towards it. Some steps to tackle these stereotypes are :
>Support and promote women
>Giving equal pay and equal opportunities
>Educating people against gender inequality
>Proving legal protection to women at workplace
>Creating a safe a healthy work environment for all the employees
>Giving leadership opportunities
Besides these there are many other ways throught which gender inequality can be tackled at workplace . But for this to happen it is necessary to start from the basic that is to teach the young children that men and women are no different and are not each others supplements but rather each others compliment.
