Maya Angelou has famously quoted “ Each time a women stands up for herself, she stands up for all women”

Women empowerment refers to promoting a sense of self-worth in women, this idea has been carried since immemorial by feminists such as Simon De Beauvior and Mary Wollstonecraft. 

SIGNIFICANCE- 

1. a) Economic Participation– Women constitute nearly half of Indian population, their inclusion will significantly contribute towards GDP and Per capita income.

1. b) Women in Public Policy will be more inclusive towards catering women’s needs,as special emphasis on 

• Care oriented models towards- elderly and children( so women can actively be involved in economic activities)
• Safety issues of women in public sphere

1. c) Increase in literary ratio- As educated women will raise children( especially girls) in a rational and empowered way.

d)Global Example (especially for south Asian Countries)- As India from being among first few to grant voting rights to women, with active empowerment of women can set an example for other countries. 

Government Initiatives–

-With women being predominant in agricultural, the government has actively participated in empowerment as –

• Formation of SHG’s ( Recently women of rajasthan SHG have helped women of Africa achieve self independence through Panchtantra mission)
• Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana for women farmers
• Reduction in taxes on properties held by women

Women’s condition in India is paradoxical, as we see Manu Bhaker( olympic medalist) reaching her potential whereas a doctor being raped in kolkata fighting for justice.
