SSC recruits candidates for various positions in central government departments, ministries, and organizations through this examination. These positions take roles in departments like Income Tax, Excise, Customs, and more.
The exam is organized into several stages as following:
Tier I: A preliminary online test that evaluates general intelligence, reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude, and English comprehension.
Tier II: An advanced online test featuring more detailed questions on quantitative aptitude and English language skills.
Tier III: A descriptive paper, written in either English or Hindi, that requires candidates to compose essays, applications, or letters.
Tier IV: This is the final test that includes practical tests such as the Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) or the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), depending on the specific job requirements.
