Workplace environment is the most important component of a job. People generally decide whether to work at any certain company or place depending on its working environment and especially when it comes to women.
I believe a workplace environment comprises of physical and emotional space. First and foremost, I value the ethics and professionalism the most. I believe when it comes to work, professionalism plays a crucial role. When it comes to work, people should adhere to protocols and not give way to their personal feelings. For example- personal grudges or favouritism should never be at play at work.
Freedom of expression is the next component that I believe should be available to everyone at work. People should have the right to express their opinions and also be open to them not being accepted. In general open communication should take place freely at a workplace.
Respect for me is the most important aspect of life and definitely my priority at work too. Opinions and proposals at work are normal to be accepted and rejected but it should be done with a certain respect. Dignity of people should not be comprised and a certain line of respect should be maintained.
Supporting work culture is very important too. Employees should be supporting towards each other and help each other when somebody struggles with work problems or any other personal problem. Employers and seniors should be supporting towards their juniors.
Last but not the least I believe as a woman safe working environment takes utmost priority for us. Workplace environment should be free of all sorts of harrassment not just physical but also mental. No sorts of vulgarity or obscenity or any passing sexist comments or behaviour should ever be tolerated.
I would conclude it by saying that workplace environment is a huge part of our life as we spend almost half of our lives at work. So I believe it should be comfortable to be at in the least.

The above quote explains the importance of women participation in all the sectors of development in very simple words. However, there’s still not much of opportunities open for women. Even though statistically 43 percent of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) graduates in India are women, when it comes to STEM jobs in India women compromise of a mere 14 percent. This clearly signifies how big of a gender gap still exists despite promoting the notion of women empowerment for more than a decade now nationally as well as globally. It is very important for this proportion to be balanced as it would not only bridge the gender gap but also improve the future of women while building a better foundation for our future.
CAUSES : Some of the major causes that leads to low participation of women in STEM jobs includes factors such as :
WAY FORWARD : To build the bridge of gender gap and to improve women’s future in STEM, a multi-stake holder approach is required.
Although the situation have improved and is improving, we still have a long road ahead to truly establish an equilibrium.
