Porn definitely has an impact on teenagers (especially during early teens). As teenagers are hit puberty, they naturally become curious about their bodies and sexuality. They discover porn through friends or while searching about sex on the internet because of lack of sex education and open communication with parents or a trusted individual.
Porn industry comes with many downsides like:
- unrealistic body standards
- Lack of consent
- Less to no communication
- practice of unsafe sex
- casual imposition of patriarchal values
- normalization of abusive or exploitative sexual behavior etc. Now this is not really the best way to find out about sex which gives us a lead to understanding why it results in addiction and brain rot. On watching porn for the first time, teenagers are stuck in the conflict between their moral values and what the porn industry shows them. To resolve this conflict they watch porn several times but are often not able to come to any conclusion regarding how ethical or unethical it is. Eventually they forget their main goal of conflict resolution and get addicted to the dopamine that porn gives them. Some teenagers facing moderate to high mental health issues start watching porn as a form of coping mechanism and escapism. Excessive addiction due to such reasons interferes in day-to-day behavior and lowers concentration.
