The decline of mughal empire after the death of Aurangzeb led to emergence of diverse regional powers.
Rise of the states were the result of various factors after Mughal decline these included:
1-Weakened imperial control-The death of Aurangzeb was followed by weak and inefficient rulers, corruption in nobility, economic strains due to long deccan campaigns.
2-Regional aspirations- With the central authority declining, many new regional chieftans saw opprtunity thus emerging of successor states like Awadh,Bengal and Hyderabad alongwith Rebel states like Marathas and small independent kingdoms like mysore.
Although they rose to prominence in their respective areas none of them were able to prevent British domination because-
1-Internal conflicts-the states were engaged in mutual wars and were internally divided among themselves.
2-lack of national conciousness- The broader sense of nation was missing and were mostly engaged in self regional expanion.
3-Military and economic power of Britishers-They posessed better warfare weapons and were supported by huge fundings from Britain.
4-Mercantalism- britishers were mostly concerned woth mercantlism in this phase thus their policies of ring fence subsidiary alliance further deepened the internal rivalry among regional powers.
Thus the vaccum in the centre lead to rise of these states which were powerful enough but lacked unity which prevented them to stop the british domination in this period.
