Government education can be elevated by adopting an overall multi-dimensional approach. The quality of teaching has to be upgraded through regular training programs for teachers and the introduction of various incentives for excellence in the teaching profession. It should update its curriculum quite frequently with relevance to contemporary requirements, including practical and skill-based learning, etc.
The infrastructure in educational institutions is another area that needs much work, especially in the rural and underprivileged areas. The provision of modern facilities, up-to-date laboratories, libraries, and technology-enabled classrooms is highly called for.
Thirdly, there has to be an increase in the education budget and proper allocation to effectively meet the set targets in ensuring the provision of equal opportunities for all members of society, regardless of their different statuses in society.
While new ideas and policies may result from a change in government, the reforms in the education sector require constant efforts and a long-term vision. It also calls for harmony among the stakeholders of such initiatives: teachers, parents, and the community in general.
