The gender gap report 2023 states that less than 40% of men and women in India have even access to equal economic opportunities and participation in the public sphere.

following are some major challenges faced by women in achieving gender equality in the workplace-

TECHNICAL-

1. The lack of vocational and technical skills is due to the high rate of dropouts from school and college.
2. less participation in mechanical and machinery handling jobs.

ECONOMICAL-

1. unequal payment for the same set of work and skills.
2. mostly serve as unpaid caregivers to families.

SOCIAL –

1. Poor working conditions and lack of proper sanitation.
2.  mobility constraints.

SECURITY-

1)women are often subjected to sexual harassment in the workplace.

2)Verbal and physical abuse in the unorganised sector

HEALTH-

1. child marriages
2. unplanned pregnancies

POLITICAL-

1. lack of favourable policies like gender budgeting and menstrual leave.
2. Less participation in the decision-making process.

Along with this women are often employed in the unorganised sector. This makes their contribution to the public sphere further invisible. Therefore, there is a need for major policy change along with stringent laws to ensure gender equality in the workplace.
