Social media use for youngsters under the age of sixteen is not, in my opinion, safe. Instead of adults, teens and young adolescents are the ones who are actually using social media sites like YouTube, Snapchat, tiktok, and Instagram to create reels.
Following the pandemic, kids are now spending more time on screens and social media across a variety of social media platforms. The youngsters can be seen using their phones and iPads more often than playing outside or engaging in physical activity. Kids are becoming less interested in reading and interacting with others and more into creating reels and tiktok. Although these networks appear to be enjoyable and engaging, many social media applications are not meant for younger users.
Exposure of these children to such platforms is not healthy. There are lots of misinformation out there that could have adverse consequences. Children are growing becoming more distant from reality as a result of these platforms. Children become lethargic due to disruptions in their sleep cycle, which disrupts family time.
