There are several campaigns for gender equality and women’s rights in India carried out by several national and local organizations. On the national level, many government schemes as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao are present which focuses on education and social security of the girl child. The Government of India’s Ministry of Women and Child Development executes strategies like the National Policy for Women 2016, policies coverage, health, education, and the economic status of women.
Local NGOs remain remarkably involved, like SEWA of India, which focuses on women’s employment, and Jagori, which advocates for gender violence. Groups such as the Gulabi Gang take up activities that seek to fight intimate partner violence and promote women’s rights in the countryside.
Measures have been enacted in the form of Acts such as the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013 to improve on provisions that deal with sexual violence. Prevention campaigns through television, newspapers, billboards and active accounts created on social media also helps in the alteration of social standings and support for the cause of gender equality.
