The Vedic period was the start of the development of early Vedic literature, religious principles and society. It laid foundation for the modern Indian society.

The main features of Vedic society and religion were:

1. Patriarchy: The society was patriarchal with the eldest male member as the head of the family.
2. Women: In early Vedic period, women were given equal rights as men. Though, in later Vedic period, the position of women declined.
3. Varna System: The society was divided into four parts based on the occupation a person chose.
4. Economy: The economy was agrarian as people were dependent on agriculture for food.
5. Trade: External trade was prevalent like trade with Mesopotamia.
6. Worship of deities: Like Indra, Agni etc. was prevalent
7. Yajanas: Sacrificial rituals were also been practiced.
8. Literature: Development of Vedas, Aranyakas etc. also took place.
9. Practice of yoga and Ayurveda also emerged.

Yes, some of these features still prevail in the present Indian society. For example: Indian society is a patriarchal society with most people still dependent on agriculture for subsistence.

Also, yoga and Ayurveda is gaining popularity in recent times with initiatives like International Yoga day and Ayushmaan Bharat scheme.

Therefore, Vedic period was the structure which gradually became the foundation for the present Indian society.
